Chapter 10: Unexpected Guest
Sitting down at the table he didn't feel hungry, his stomach churned. He couldn't get over how casually Morgan brought up what he had done, for someone who cared so much he just passed over the fact he sent several people to their deaths. Morgan sat down at the table with a bowl and some crackers.
"It's onion soup if you want any," Morgan said.
"No, I think I'm good, not really hungry," Kokobiel said as he shifted in his seat. He was uneasy; he could feel his heart beat a little faster with Morgan at the table.
"Come on, you have to eat something. I would hate to see you go hungry. Maybe just some crackers?" Morgan said as he passed over a pack of crackers. Kokobiel stared at it then looked back up at Morgan spoon still in hand.
"Did you actually send those people to their death?" Kokobiel asked in a hushed tone. Morgan set down his spoon and cleared his throat.
"I did yes, they knew what was to happen when they showed up here. They were good people and they took the risk. If they have relatives we are actively making sure they are living comfortably." Morgan said as he hung his head.
"Do their relatives know?" Kokobiel asked, his throat tightened in anger.
"Most of them, no, requested not to tell them. Others were informed that they were, some are here around the base." Morgan said as he stared into Kokobiels eyes.
"At least they know," Kokobiel said as he grabbed the crackers. Unwrapping the packaging he broke the cracker in half before he ate it then offered the other half to Morgan. Morgan took the half as he dipped it into the soup before eating it himself.
"I'm sorry if I seem unsympathetic I don't mean to be..." Morgan sighed.
"Ive just seen so much of it I just try and not think about it." Morgan said to Kokobiel.
"Then why do you continue with this way of life? Clearly it only leads to more of it doesn't it?" Kokobiel asked.
"You're not wrong but you can't just sit around doing nothing, I'm far in too deep at this point," Morgan said as he picked up the bowl.
"That's reasonable, a lot of people depend on you at this point." Kokobiel said to him. Morgan drank the broth before setting down the bowl.
"You're right but once this is all over, there's no more House, HADES or Freelancer we can all settle down. They say life can be great and short or okay and long but mine is either going to be short and okay or it's going to be great and long." Morgan said as he smiled at Kokobiel.
"And where will I be for that?" Kokobiel asked sarcastically.
"Depends what happens but for the time being with me. Unless this is your strange way of asking if we'll get married and for that we shall see." Morgan's smile turned to a sly smirk. Kokobiel shook his head unamused, it was a drastic way of thought but it was a fair assumption.
"Marry you, only in your dreams." Kokobiel said back sarcastically. Morgan put one hand to his chest and his other to his head as he threw himself back dramatically. Kokobiel chuckled before getting out the second cracker and eating it.
"You sure you don't want soup? I can go get you some if you want, just don't tell anyone else." Morgan said.
"I am sure I don't want any. Onion breath." Kokobiel said back as he stuck out his tongue in a mimicking way. Morgan looked at him confused before blowing into his hand and smelling it before slightly recoiling.
"Okay you're right fuck face." Morgan said as his face unscrunched. Kokobiel leaned back in his chair as Dingo finally joined them.
"Got two idiots in line bickering about their proportions, at least where until they noticed I was waiting behind them. Really wanted to test the durability of the serving tray against their heads," Dingo said as she pulled out the chair and sat down.
"I wouldn't do that with the commander here, I don't need my best man working as an assistant." Morgan said to her. Dingo snorted at the comment as she poked around in her bowl.
"So when do we leave to make our way to Wortistan?" Dingo asked.
"We just got back, let's relax for at least a few hours. Plus I have business I have to attend to, my arm has been acting up and the flashlight won't work because of it." Morgan responded back. Morgan got up as he took his bowl with him.
"What? not going to stay while I eat? Dickhead." Dingo said in response to him starting to leave.
"Got work to get done before I can relax, don't you have explosives to check?" Morgan asked as he began to walk off. Dingo flipped him off as he walked away.
Kokobiel got up as well before Dingo scowled at him before shooing him away with a hand. He joined Morgan as he walked out of the cafeteria.
"So what are you going to do?" Kokobiel asked as they walked.
"Work on my arm in my workshop, you're welcome to join me if you want but no promises you won't get bored." Morgan replied back.
"I just want to see what's in it. I'm sure I could also help. I'm somewhat good with my hands but you wouldn't know that." Kokobiel said jokingly. Morgan shook his head as he let out a sigh before continuing to walk. Back in the car pool it had calmed down a lot, there was only one or two chupas with clipboards in hands as they went over the vehicles. All of a sudden the mechanical system of the car pools door began to whir as it opened and a van slowly came in.
"I didn't think they would be back so soon. Maybe our intel was wrong." Morgan said as he stood there waiting. The van parked before the back doors opened and out came Singe and Cyd, it took a minute for Tom to come out along with another. The red armor made it obvious it was a HADES agent but they weren't wearing a helmet, Tom was helping them along as they limped towards the main hallway. Singe and Cyd helped him but they were carrying bags.
"Hey why are you guys back already?" Morgan asked as he came over.
"Also who is that, why is he in that armor," Morgan demanded as he poked Tom's chest. Kokobiel followed behind, the HADES agent looked familiar before it clicked. It was Raymond, Tom and Kokobiel's buddy from special forces training; they hadn't seen him since he went off to HADES.
"Just fuck off we know him but his leg is bad, possibly broken. Now help me get him to the medbay. I don't know where I'm going." Tom said as he pushed past Morgan. Singed and Cyd led him along the way as they went to the medbay.
"Who was that?" Morgan asked as he returned to Kokobiel.
"Raymond, like I said an old buddy, I wonder what happened to them to cause that?" Kokobiel asked out loud but was more a thought to himself.
"Maybe they ran into house members and didn't have a choice? But why would Raymond get caught up with us, he should have shot at them." Morgan said as he crossed his arms.
"Don't get a stick up your ass. He won't do any harm," Kokobiel said as he turned around and dragged Morgan with him. Morgan tripped over his own feet as he was forced to walk. Eventually Morgan was back infront of him as they continued to walk to Morgan's workshop.
"Why aren't we going with them?" Morgan asked.
"Just give them some time to rest, they don't need us in their faces." Kokobiel replied back. Morgan's face scrunched as he opened a door and stepped inside, Kokobiel didn't feel good about it either but he knew getting in their way wouldn't help.
Looking around it wasn't exactly a large space but there were almost a dozen vents on the roof, a work bench sat on the far wall with blue print hung up along it, several different tools laid upon the work bench and even more tools on shelves next to the work bench. The closest wall had a fuel tank and welding mask atop of it, it sat on a dolley with makeshift straps to hold down the tank. The middle of the room had scraps of metal in boxes, a car door, metal panels from a tank, and other assortments.
"So you work in here?" Kokbiel asked.
"I mean yeah, are you judging my workshop?" Morgan asked as he grabbed a tool box off the shelf before setting it on the work bench.
"I mean not that it's bad but it could use some work," Kokobiel said as inspected the tools on the shelves. Morgan narrowed his eyes at Kokobiel as he removed his arm and opened one of it's panels, he fiddled with wires as he looked for what was wrong.
"What are you looking for?" Kokobiel asked as he grabbed the connecting piece to a blow torch.
"A loose wire or if the battery is leaking." Morgan replied back now focused.
"Have you checked to see if the bulb is loose?" Kokobiel asked as he pointed to it. Morgan stopped for a moment as his hand moved over to the bulb and he twisted it. He let out a sigh before closing the panel back.
"You make stuff more difficult on yourself on purpose don't you." Kokobiel said sarcastically. Morgan rolled his eyes as he slid his arm back on and tightened it on.
"You just love being annoying don't you. You would gladly get paid to do so wouldn't you?" Morgan asked, annoyed.
"Yes I would but apparently my clientele don't seem to reciprocate that." Kokobiel said with a shit eating grin.
Morgan flipped him off as he grabbed a few pieces of scrap metal and the fuel tank. Lunging it over as he slipped on the welding mask opening its eye flap.
"Well if you're going to be in here you can be useful. Now hand me the blow torch piece," Morgan said with an outstretched arm. Kokobiel looked at the piece before smirking and slowly raising his arm to the top shelf which had nothing on it.
"You shit fuck do not!" Morgan yelled as he now pointed at him. Kokobiel's smile only got bigger as he set down the piece before turning around and out of the room.
"Go fuck yourself!" Morgan yelled as he left. Kokobiel walked down the corridor returning to the car pool before heading the way Tom had gone down in search of the two. The hallways were confusing and there weren't any signs that pointed to where anything was, some doors had signs over them but they didn't help point where he was. Eventually coming to a corridor with two openings, one with a red cross and the other medical closet. Kokobiel stepped inside the room with a red cross and greeted with what was essentially a small clinic then a medical room.
Tom was sitting next to Raymond who was resting, his foot was wrapped tightly and propped on a pillow.
"How is he?" Kokobiel asked.
"Stable, he fractured a few bones in his foot but they're going to take a while to heal," Tom said as he looked up to Kokobiel.
"So what the hell happened?" Kokobiel asked as he sat down in a chair.
"Fell down a rock face as we were escaping some guys, not too friendly." Tom replied back.
"Who would be shooting at you two, couldn't have been the house, maybe HADES?" Kokobiel thought aloud.
"Neither some group we ran into, well he happened to be there." Tom replied to his thoughts. Raymond stirred as he lifted himself up, he groaned in pain before laying against the wall for support.
"Oh hey guys. Didn't know I was of so much concern." Raymond said.
"We haven't seen you in a while and I'm just concerned since I wasn't there," Kokobiel said as he scooted his chair closer to the bed.
"You both act like I'm dying, I'm just going to be walking funny for a few weeks." Raymond said as he chuckled.
"We're concerned, but rest you're going to need it," Tom said as he got up from the chair. Kokobiel got up as well before he followed Tom who was already leaving. Seeing an ample opportunity Kokobiel slipped the now awake Boxes from his shirt pocket.
"Hey I got you something," Kokobiel said as he jabbed Tom in the arm. Tom turned his head in confusion before Kokobiel held Boxes up to his face.
"Awe he's adorable," Tom said as he took Boxes from Kokobiel. The kitten spat at him before settling and sniffing him.
"Where did you find him?" Tom asked.
"In a box so his name is Boxes." Kokobiel said smugly.
"Oh how creative." Tom said flatly back.
"I have to tell you something," Kokobiel said as he scratched his head.
"Yeah sure go ahead," Tom replied back, too focused on the kitten in his hands.
"Me and your brother are dating kind of and I wanted to see if you're okay with that after everything." Kokobiel blurted out. Tom paused for a moment as he processed what he heard.
"You're fucking with me right?" Tom asked back, not believing him. Kokobiel shook his head in return, Tom raised his eyebrows in shock.
"Didn't realize my brother was a man whore, good for him." Tom said jokingly. Kokobiel was shocked by this as he looked at him in confusion.
"What no, he's not a- well I don't think so at least he's not just putting himself out there. He's sweet when he wants to be." Kokobiel mumbled out. Tom smirked at him as he pushed Kokobiel's buttons.
"I mean I don't blame him he definitely wouldn't be the first of our bloodline to see something in you." Tom said his smile couldn't hide.
"WHAT, you can't just say that!" Kokobiel basically yelled at him as he tried to hide his face. Tom was laughing at this point he had done what he wanted to as he started walking.
"Come on, show me where he is so I can talk to him as well. I still don't believe you," Tom said as he walked towards the car pool.
It didn't take long before they were back in Morgan's work shop, it was a lot hotter now. Morgan was at the bench mask still on as he was putting two pieces together.
"Hey dipshit enough with your custom built cock ring," Tom said as he put a hand on Morgan's shoulder. The welding torch was turned off as he lifted up the welding mask.
"What do you want, I'm busy." Morgan said unamused.
"Didn't know you were a man whore and enjoyed bagging the bulkier variety." Tom replied back in a mocking tone.
"You told him already?" Morgan asked Kokobiel even more unamused.
"Listen he's your brother he should at least know. Plus I've seen too much to not let him know," Kokobiel said as he crossed his arms.
"You act like that was my fault, you forgot to put a towel back into the bathroom." Tom said now annoyed.
"Know what I don't even care. Yes we are dating you won't stop me from that." Morgan said to Tom as he dead panned over to him.
"At least you're honest, come on, we should celebrate. Maybe a couple of shots, what do you say Koko?" Tom said as he jabbed Kokobiel and walked out of the room.
Kokobiel waited a moment until Tom had fully left the room.
"I should have told you I would say something or have you there when it happened," Kokobiel said to him as he approached. Morgan was now inspecting his work as he leaned over the table.
"It's okay I just wasn't ready to break the news of it yet. Especially since he is the way he is, seven years and not much has changed." Morgan said back. Kokobiel leaned over him as he wrapped his arms around Morgan's torso and bent down as he rested his head on Morgan's shoulder.
"I don't think you should be afraid to tell people, what are they going to do? Mess with a rebel general?" Kokobiel asked sarcastically. Morgan set down his work as he rubbed Kokobiel's hand.
"I guess you have a good point but that still doesn't mean I'm afraid to admit it." Morgan quietly said.
"Afraid to admit what, you enjoy the company of another?" Kokobiel asked, pressing Morgan.
"Im afraid to admit..." Morgan froze as he thought what he was about to say. "... I'm afraid to admit that I love you." Morgan said much more quietly than his previous sentence. Kokobiel could feel his face grow hotter as his grip tightened slightly.
"Sorry that was too much wasn't it," Morgan said as he broke away from Kokobiel's grasp.
"Let's just go have a couple shots, maybe get this out of our system," Morgan said as he tried to leave. Kokobiel stopped him as he reached out for his hand.
"I love you too Morgan, but there's no point in running away from your emotions. We can still get the shots but maybe to enjoy them instead of drowning the thoughts." Kokobiel said to him. Morgan looked up at him as his breathing became rapid.
"I- I don't know it's just a bit fast is all. Maybe after the drinks we can talk this over." Morgan said back. Kokobiel broke the grasp as he slowly began to walk waiting for Morgan to join him.
"Cmon we should probably be a bit quicker before that runt tail pours more than he can take," Kokobiel said as he started walking. Morgan sped up to catch up with him.
"Yeah we can't let him have all the fun." Morgan said with a more cheery mood.
