Chapter 7: Boxes

It was a bit later till he opened his eyes again, Morgan was still at the table as well as Jack who sat across from him. Sam was still at the far end of the table but Rykard was no longer at the table. Kokobiel sat up as he stretched in the chair. Something in his back popped, but it was a good pop. He looked at Morgan, who had a sternness on his face. He wasn't exactly staring at Jack, but he definitely looked at him more often. Kokobiel kicked him lightly in the leg as he shook his head towards Jack. Morgan looked at Kokobiel and he sighed before looking at Jack.

"I'm sorry about last night. I was just irritated. Though you do annoy me very easily," Morgan said to Jack.

"Oh, I am sorry as well. I didn't realize I had really pushed you that much," Jack said back.

"You have, but I should have said something until it got to that point," Morgan said as he picked at the wires on his metal arm.

"I will take consideration before I do the things I do. I still didn't cheat at that game. Marcus just never shuffled the cards properly," Jack said. Morgan's face went flat as he leaned back in his chair and looked past Kokobiel. Morgan mumbled something under his breath before he leaned forward again. Kokobiel felt a pat on his back before he found Dingo leaning on him.

"So, are we all set up for the day?" Dingo asked.

"Yeah I have all my things packed, and I'm sure Marcus does as well. Are we leaving now?" Jack asked.

"Here soon, just have to put the supplies in the back. Then we'll be back to switch out tomorrow so we still have Morgan in base," Dingo said as she got off of Kokobiel.

Jack got up, went to a back room, came back with a duffel bag, and went outside. Kokobiel got up as he followed Jack outside, opening the van door as Jack tossed his bag in. Marcus soon came out with his own bag before he also lugged it into the back.

"The basement has the supplies, but we have to put the ammo in the hidden compartment of the box," Marcus said as he turned to go to the side of the house and open the cellar doors.

Kokobiel followed him to the cellar doors as they walked down the small staircase into the basement. Marcus pulled on a string and a light came on. The basement wasn't very big, but most of it was taken up by boxes, all with labels.

"Grab one of the boxes labeled home goods, it has ammo in it," Marcus said as he went to the left side of the basement to grab a box. Kokobiel followed his orders as he went to the right side and found a box labeled home goods before he picked it up. The box was hefty and wasn't the easiest to carry. He stuck his fingers in the box hand holds. He could feel loose rounds as he stuck his fingers in. He turned around, ignoring the feeling as he went back up the stairs. Marcus followed behind him and went to the van. He found Morgan in the back with the box open, waiting for them to hand over the boxes. As Kokobiel passed the box to Morgan, he could feel Morgan rub his hand as he took the box before turning around. Kokobiel smirked as he turned back around to the basement to grab more boxes. It didn't take them long to fill the van with the supplies; Dingo had come out, as well as Sam. Marcus and Sam shared a moment before Marcus got in the van and Dingo got in the drivers side. Carly must have already gotten into the back without Kokobiel noticing.

"Morgan, while you're at it, I need you to check out a contact that will be in town today. He'll meet you at the local diner. He wanted to tell us something," Dingo said as she started up the van and slowly moved out from the front of the house.

They stood outside while the van went off down the street and disappeared out of their view.

"So do you want me to tag along as you meet the informant?" Kokobiel asked Morgan as he went up the stairs.

"Yeah I wouldn't mind it, grab food since we're there," Morgan replied back as he followed him up the stairs.

"That kind of sounds like a date," Kokobiel said as a smirk went across his face. Morgan jabbed him in the side.

"You wish it was. It's just getting food while we wait," Morgan said as he opened the door. Kokobiel rolled his eyes as he stepped inside. Morgan followed behind him and shut the door.

"She didn't specify a time, so I have to assume it's probably a couple hours from now. I really wish she was more specific at times," Morgan said as he hopped over the couch and sat down.

"I mean either way, we'll still end up there so I wouldn't worry too much," Kokobiel said as he came around the couch and sat down.

"Well yeah I have to worry. She did say the guy had something important to tell us. She didn't even describe him, or if he meets us or we meet him," Morgan said in annoyance and anger.

"Hey let's not get too worked up over it. We can always blame her for it," Kokobiel said. It was more sarcastic, but it was always an option. Morgan leaned his head back as he blew out. Clearly he was thinking and trying to calm himself.

"The hell are you two talking about?" Sam asked.

"Morgan and I are supposed to go and meet up with an informant, but Dingo wasn't very descriptive on what they look like or when we're supposed to meet," Kokobiel replied back as he turned his head towards her.

"Oh, that's CJ. We don't know his actual name, so we just call him CJ. He mostly meets us and it's scary that he knows basically all of our people, but he works for credits for the most part and hates the House," Sam said back.

"Do we have a time at the very least?" Morgan asked.

"Probably midday, and that's a long while from now," Sam said as she made her way to the chair.

"So what do we do until then?" Morgan asked.

"I don't know, maybe we could go walk around town for a little while. I'm sure we have some credits we could just spend on small items we want," Sam said as she sat down.

"I did say I would get Tom something while we were here. Do you know what he likes?" Kokobiel asked as he looked at Morgan.

"Well other than food I don't really know. We haven't spoken in seven years until recently. He was fifteen the night he left. I'm sure a lot has changed in his interests," Morgan replied back.

"Right, sorry, maybe I'll just grab him something stupid," Kokobiel said.

"It'd be for the best. We could go searching right now, while it's still early and there wouldn't be many people out," Morgan said as he got up to take off his jacket.

"I mean yeah sure. Sam, are you going to come with us? Also where's Rykard?" Kokobiel asked before he looked around for Rykard. Rykard wasn't in the kitchen or living room as he looked around, but he had probably just gone to a back room.

"I think he's taking a shower currently. He's got a specific schedule for certain things. Give him like fifteen minutes," Sam said as she got out of the chair and grabbed a baseball cap hanging on a door. Morgan was now taking off his arm and setting it on a nearby shelf.

"A little help, if you would?" Morgan asked Kokobiel as he unrolled his shirt sleeve. Kokobiel got off the couch, tied Morgan's sleeve, and then stuffed it back to make it seamless.

"I'm surprised you don't do it yourself," Kokobiel said as he finished stuffing the sleeve back in.

"Just easier for someone else to do it," Morgan replied back. Kokobiel shrugged. It definitely was easier when someone else was helping you, but surely he could do it on his own. It didn't take long until Rykard was in the room with them. He looked at the group in confusion before he signed something.

"We're going shopping- well more just walking around town, but we're going to call it shopping," Sam said to Rykard. Rykard nodded his head in return as he went to the kitchen's bar and grabbed his wallet from it. It didn't take long for the group to get out of the house and start making their way further into the town.

"You know it's funny how Dingo said this was a supply run and crew change, but we weren't very swift about it," Sam said as the group walked.

"Well Jack did take forever to get home, and Dingo was already asleep," Morgan replied back as he looked around. The town wasn't very busy. It did seem House members were on patrol this morning, though most seemed to not care a whole lot about their patrol. The town had lots of local shops. Most were only starting to open, while others were still closed. Sam stopped in front of one of the stores. Looking inside, it seemed to be some sort of knick knack store.

"I promise I'll be right back- just want to grab something," Sam said as she stepped inside the shop. Rykard followed her inside and immediately went opposite of where she was going. Morgan leaned on a wall as he pulled down his mask.

"For it being so early, it's already kind of warm out, and breathing through that mask sometimes sucks," Morgan said.

"Then why do you wear it?" Kokobiel asked him.

"Mostly to keep my face hidden, but I don't really need to wear it everywhere," Morgan said as he reached his hand up to untie the back end of it.

"I mean it's a great idea. I'm sure nobody wants to see your ugly mug," Kokobiel said jokingly before Morgan stared back at him.

"C'mon that was kind of funny," Kokobiel said as he leaned against the wall next to him.

"Suck a cock," Morgan said as he took off the mask and shoved it into his pocket. Kokobiel shook his head as he looked around, the street was still empty, Sam and Rykard were still inside the shop. Kokobiel let out a sigh of boredom as he listened to the distant noises, birds, a dog barking at something. He looked into the thin alley nearby, and there was a couple boxes with a trash can at the far end.

"Bet I can knock over those boxes with a rock?" Kokobiel asked Morgan.

"If you can, I'll pay for lunch," Morgan said as popped off the wall and looked down the alley. Kokobiel picked up a rock, pulled his arm back, and nailed the bottom box before the two above wobbled, only for the top box to fall off. There was what sounded like a yowl as the box landed, except it was much higher pitched.

"Shit I think I hit something," Kokobiel said as he walked down the alleyway.

"Of fucking course you did," Morgan said as he followed him down.

When Kokobiel got to the box he had knocked over he couldn't find anything to note around the box. He then slowly picked up the box he had knocked over and set it atop the larger boxes. Morgan watched behind him in slight confusion. Kokobiel opened the box just to be hissed at by a very fiery kitty.

"Aww, it's just a little cat. Does Tom like cats? Maybe this could give him some responsibility to help him out with everything," Kokobiel said as he reached in the box for the cat. The cat swatted at him and hissed, but he didn't exactly care. A knife is much worse then some kitten claws.

"I don't know, we never had pets, unless you count the rats Tom kept in a shoe box for a while. Also I feel that Tom would teach it to attack at will, but he'd love it to death," Morgan said as he stroked the kitten's head. The kitten kept fighting back as it bit Kokobiels hand only for it to eventually wear itself out and only able to hiss at the two. They came back to the front of the store to see Rykard already standing outside with a small box, he was looking around for them before he spotted them and walked over. He looked at the thing in Kokobiel's hand before signing something to the two. Kokobiel nudged Morgan since he didn't know what Rykard said.

"It's a cat he found in the trash. I can only assume he wanted to keep it now," Morgan said as he took the cat from Kokobiel's hands. Rykard made a face of excitement as he petted the cat. Sam walked out of the store with a bag as she looked over to the group and joined them.

"Whatcha got th- kitty!" Sam said in excitement as she reached to pet the cat as well.

"Where did you find him?" Sam asked.

"Alleyway," Kokobiel replied back

"He's just a little baby. We should go get him some food then give him a bath when we get back," Sam said as she started making her way down the street. The group followed her, assuming she knew where a store was for the cat. It didn't take long until the group was in another store. It had several animals in cages, bags of animal food, and things to take care of said animals. Morgan still had the cat in his hand as he used one finger to pet it. Sam ended up in the front of the line with a bag of cat food and a bowl, plus a couple of small toy items. She reached into her back pocket as she pulled out credits and counted.

"Shit I don't have enough. Morgan, spot me," Sam said as she looked back at Morgan. He rolled his eyes before holding up in the cat in one hand and then looking to Kokobiel. Kokobiel let out a small sigh as he got out his wallet and handed over the necessary credits.

Sam took the credits and paid for the items before handing a bag to Kokobiel full of the items.

"Our hands are all kind of full. We should head back to the house," Morgan said as he pushed open the door with his shoulder.

"Yeah I agree we should head back," Kokobiel said as he walked out the door with him. The other two nodded in agreement as they joined the other two. It had barely even reached midday by the time they got back, but they were now occupied with a cat for at least a couple hours.

"So who's going to bathe him? Because no matter how much I love the little guy, I hate fighting to bathe cats," Sam said as she opened the door to the house.

"Are we sure it's a he? And I can't bathe him; my arm would rust, and I can't do it with one hand," Morgan replied back, cat still in hand.

"You can check if you want, I'm not an animal doctor so how would I know?" Sam replied back.

"Do you mean a veterinarian? Also I can bathe the creature we refer to as he which we need to name," Kokobiel said as he came in behind Morgan.

"No we can't name it buttmuncher, Rykard, also how the hell did you come up with a sign for that?" Sam said as she shut the door when Rykard came in.

"Could just let Tom name it; it'll be his cat. Mmm actually, Boxes sounds better, and we found em in a box," Kokobiel said as he took the cat from Morgan's hand.

"Yeah we can put a pin in that. It's a bit strange but go bathe him first," Morgan said as he jested towards the bathroom. Kokobiel rolled his head as he carried the cat to the bathroom and stepped inside. The bathroom wasn't very large, but had a bathtub and shower combo. It was better than the standing showers Kokobiel has dealt with. He set the cat down on the toilet lid. It was just meowing at him now as it explored its small elevated area. Kokobiel turned on the faucet and felt the water, waiting for it to barely get warm before stopping the water when the tub had enough water to wash the cat. He picked up the cat, set him down into the tub, and slowly put water over him. Dirt came off of the cat fairly quickly, and what he thought was a calico turned out to be a deep orange tabby.

"Dirty thing you are. What have you been doing playing in, mud?" Kokobiel asked in humor.

"Are you talking to the cat?" Morgan said from the door, spooking Kokobiel.

"You fucking bastard, but yes I am. It's not like im talking to myself," Kokobiel said as he grabbed a shampoo bottle.

"I'm not calling you crazy- it's kind of cute, even," Morgan said as he came and sat next to him.

"Calling me cute? Unexpected of you," Kokobiel said sarcastically.

"Normally I'd say no, because you're talking to the cat, but yeah sure you're cute. Happy?" Morgan asked as he raised an eyebrow.

"Yes I am, now what did you need?" Kokobiel asked.

"Just checking in on you and the cat. Still up to joining me to that diner?" Morgan asked in return.

"Yes I am. I assume I'm still paying. I will and probably only I will. Consider it a date," Kokobiel said as he washed off the shampoo from the cat.

"I'm not going to stop you, and you are paying. Just make sure you aren't a mess," Morgan said as he pushed off the bathtub. On his way up, he gave Kokobiel a kiss on the cheek before he walked out of the bathroom. Kokobiel could feel his face get hot as he picked the cat out of the bath and wrapped him in a towel to dry off. It had been a while since he wrote in his journal and this would definitely be one of the new entries.
